A TRIBUTE TO THE STARS

for Malta Arts Festival - Summer 2008
featuring hits by the greatest stars of all time

On the occasion of the Malta Arts Festival 2008, Spiteri Lucas Entertainment (SLE) and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, teamed up together to produce yet another spectacular music production that featured hits by some of the greatest pop stars of all time. It was surely one of the most spectacular shows for the 2008 summer's that had 2 nights full house.

"A Tribute to the Stars" featured a varied repertoire of popular tunes chosen from over a sixty year span of Pop History and made popular throughout the years by a host of international stars. From the big-band sound of Glenn Miller and crooning myths such as Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and his daughter Nathalie, Andy Williams, Frank Valli, Elvis Presley, Barry Manilow, The Ronettes, Paul Anka, Shirley Bassey, The Beatles, Elton John, Dusty Springfield as well as Motown Legends Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick together with the soulful voices of Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave.

The show also featured hits from contemporary or more recent pop stars such as Queen, Boy George and his Culture Club, Robbie Williams, modern day crooner Michael Bubble, Bon Jovi, U2 and a special medley of Italian great Andrea Bocelli.

Hit numbers such as "In the Mood", "Put Your Head on my Shoulder", "Diamonds are forever", "Save the last dance for me", "Sir Duke", "Killing me Softly", "Son of a Preacher", "Be my Baby", "You don't have to say you love me", "In the Midnight Hour", "Mustang Sally". "Respect", Karma Chameleon", "It's my Life", "Always", Let me Entertain You", "Angels", "Vivo Per Lei" kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. However it was the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody" that stole the show and had the fully packed theatre giving a standing ovation.

Ludwig Galea, crooner Ivan Spiteri Lucas, Debbie Scerri, Glen Vella, Priscilla, Triccas, Nadine Axisa, foreign based performing artist Jason Scerri and other promising performers such as Sandro Cassar, Adie, Julia Grima, Krista Spiteri Lucas and Brooke Borg took part in the show..

All artists were accompanied by a live seven piece band under the direction of popular musical director Mark Spiteri Lucas while Celaine Buhagiar together with her Dancel Dance Troupe was responsible for choreography.  

The other musicians were Jesmond Baldacchino (drums), Joe M. Vella (bass), Alex Mizzi (guitar), Kurt Spiteri Lucas (keyboards), Adrian Brincat (trumpet), Ivan Borg (saxophone) and Dominic Darmanin (guest trombone).
